Emergency escape devices, generally short-ranged, fitted to a number of ships and referred to under various different names. References include:
- Space Fall: whilst investigating the newly-boarded
Liberator with Blake and Jenna, Avon noted that life rocket launch
control had been operated.
- Mission to Destiny: Sara launched one of the life rockets to fool
the crew into thinking Dortmunn had fled. Avon stated that they had a
limited range, not enough to reach another planet from where the
Ortega was currently positioned.
- Deliverance: the escape pods on young Ensor's Space master craft
were variously referred to as survival modules and high impact life capsules.
According to Jenna, they could fall from orbit onto solid rock without
damaging the occupant.

Aftermath: the life capsules on Liberator could be launched
either from the inside or by remote from outside. This was presumably true
of most emergency escape systems. Jenna's life capsule malfunctioned and she
was reported by Zen as having sustained superficial injuries as a result.
