Help!

If you're getting stuck with how to use the Hermit Eclipse site, this is the place to come! Here you'll find information to help you find your way around the Hermit Eclipse site, and information about the author.

Making Your Way Around

Feel free to just stroll around the site at leisure, clicking from page to page by following whatever links take your fancy. (A link is a highlighted piece of text like this link to the Hermit Eclipse Front Page; clicking on it takes you to that page.) Often, links are used to explain technical terms; for example, if you see something talking about an annular eclipse, clicking on "annular" will take you to an explanation of what that means. Other times, links just go to related topics.

To help you go directly to a page which you're interested in, every page (including this one) contains a navigation bar at the top-left corner. This has headings for each of the major topics at Hermit Eclipse; clicking on a heading will take you directly to that topic.

Some topics have more than one page under them; for example, if you go to the "Why" section, you'll see another navigation bar appear under the main one, with smaller headings, showing you all the pages in that topic.

Every major page is accessable via these navigation bars; also, you can get to all these pages from the big index on the front page. Clicking "Home" at the top-left of any page will take you back to the front page, where you will find this index.

A few more minor pages aren't directly accessable in this way; you'll find them under links from various appropriate places.

So How Is It Organised?

There are 4 main pages, as you can see in the navigation bar above; three of these are collections of pages, with their own navigation bar:

  • What Is It is a quick introduction to solar and lunar eclipses;
  • Science is a collection of pages on how eclipses work;
  • When contains timetables and descriptions of past and future eclipses.

In addition, there are sub-sections for particular past and future eclipses of note. Each of these is somewhat independent of the main "Hermit Eclipse" site; some of these sub-sections will have their own navigation bars, and even their own help pages.

Finding Information

If you have a clear idea of what you're looking for, the navigation bars should get you there. However, sometimes you might not be sure what category a piece of information might come under; so, I've provided a search facility, which is also on every page under the navigation bar. You can just type a keyword into the text field and press "Enter" or click "Search"; or, click the options link for help on searching. The options link also takes you to a search form with a couple more facilities; see that page for details.
