Annular Solar Eclipse: February 26 2017



The annular solar eclipse of February 26 2017 will be visible across southern South America and south-western Africa. The annular phase runs from 13:15:15 UT, when the eclipse begins in the south Pacific, to the end of the eclipse in Africa at 16:31:34 UT. The maximum eclipse is at 14:53:21 UT, when the annular phase will last 44 seconds.

The partial eclipse will be visible over southern South America and south-west Africa between 12:10:45 UT and 17:35:58 UT.

This is going to be a narrow and short-lived annular eclipse, and as with any annular eclipse, this eclipse is never safe to view with the naked eye.

South America

The eclipse crosses Chile and Argentina between 13:34 and 13:44 UT. The path width is shrinking from 58 to 50 km as the eclipse builds, and the duration of the annular phase is just over 1 minute.

Africa

The eclipse reaches Africa in Angola at 16:26 UT; it is reaching the end of the annular eclipse, with a duration of 1 minute 9 seconds, and a path width of 73 km. The eclipse ends in the democratic republic of Congo at 16:30.
