Being There: TourismPlanning an eclipse expedition needs to be done well in advance. Accommodation may be booked up well in advance of the event; and if conditions are good, roads may be congested on the day as people rush in to see the big event (TV news bulletins always publicize these things massively, but very close to the actual date!). So laying down good plans in advance might be a sensible precaution. This page provides links to available information about travel and accommodation in the eclipse areas. It also tries to provide some general tourism information, to help you get the most out of any trip you may plan. Click here for information on ScillyCornwall
Cornwall is a beautiful county, and a wonderful place to visit, eclipse or no eclipse. From Bodmin Moor to the craggy coast, the many wind farms, and Arthur's legendary Tintagel Castle, there is no shortage of reasons to pay it a visit. Click on the pictures for full-sized versions. Or visit Clint's photos page! Similarly, there is plenty of accommodation available, from posh hotels to small, cosy and friendly working farmhouses. I myself spent a very pleasant week in one such place in Boscastle, a small fishing village with amazing character, and a stones throw from some staggering clifftop walks -- and Tintagel, of course. One piece of good news is that there is plenty of on-line information about Cornwall available, and I've prepared the following list of links to get you started. I hope this will not only help you to arrange accommodation, but will also give you some ideas for how to make your trip worthwhile, even if it is cloudy! TravelDevonDevon is also a beautiful place to visit; Dartmoor, for example, one of the most beautiful places in Britain, is actually inside the total eclipse zone. Devon is an excellent place to see the eclipse; the best place to be is Prawle Point, in the far south of Devon, which will see around 2 minutes and 4 seconds of total eclipse. Salcome will get about 2 minutes and 1 second.
