Under the influence of a telepathic message, Blake abandons plans for the crew to rest
from their search for Star One. He finds a guerilla leader Shivan, heavily bandaged from
severe injuries, and a former Federation official, Ven Glynd, who proposes to join forces
and denounce the Federation at a summit meeting on the planet Atlay.

However, Shivan is actually Travis under heavy disguise, and Avon and Cally have to
race to try and break the telepathic hold over Blake.
